Bogward History

Carl F. W. Borgward (1890–1963) founded the former Borgward car manufacturing company in Bremen, Germany. Borgward, Hansa, Goliath, and Lloyd were among the four brands it produced and sold to a wide range of international customers. Many working-class drivers could afford the Lloyd Alexander/Lloyd 600 model, which was produced by Borgward in the 1950s and was one of Germany's most popular premium models. A controversial insolvency proceeding resulted in the group ceasing operations in 1961.

Die Stuttgart-based Borgward Group AG designed and marketed cars manufactured in China to revive the brand in the 21st century.

To fill a market gap, Carl Borgward's first automobile was the Blitzkarren (lightning cart) of 1924. Traders on a tight budget ordered it for delivery from the manufacturer. For postal service, the Reichspost ordered a large number of them.
