In spite of sharing a platform with the Kia Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade manages to carve out its own niche with its unique styling. Telluride's smooth powertrain, spacious cabin, and composed driving manners can appeal to a different segment of the SUV buying public, as well. Comfort and refinement are comparable to the Genesis' top trim levels, which helped the Palisade win Editors' Choice. In contrast, its value-oriented trims offer a generous set of convenience and infotainment features designed for today's modern families. The Palisade's long warranty and standard driver-assistance technology are two more reasons to put it at the top of your list.

A 3.8-liter V-6 powers the Palisade. Two hundred and ninety-one horsepower is more than enough for this application when paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission The Palisade's transmission can be shifted manually using paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The gearbox shifts smoothly on its own, but when climbing hills, the ratios are shuffled around a bit more. SE, SEL, and Limited trims come standard with front-wheel drive while all-wheel drive is an option on the Calligraphy. In addition to a powerful transmission cooler, trailer pre-wiring, and sway control, all Palisades come with a trailer hitch that can tow up to 5000 pounds.

EPA estimates, for example, that a Palisade with front-wheel drive gets 19 mpg in town and 26 highway. When equipped with four-wheel drive, the Palisade returns 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Only 23 of the 24 mpg claimed by the SEL model on our 200-mile highway test route were achieved by our all-wheel-drive SEL.

Eight passengers can be accommodated in the SE and SEL trims, while seven can be accommodated in the Limited and Calligraphy trims. All three rows of seats have ample legroom for their occupants to move around freely. Single-button operation allows for easy access to the third row by moving the second row seats forward. The road noise is muffled, but the doors let in a lot of wind noise. SEL and Limited models offer the option of automatic second and third row folding when the second and third rows are folded.Behind the front seats, we were able to store 33 carry-on suitcases, which is 86 cubic feet of space. As a result of folding the second and third rows, 46 cubic feet of storage space is made available.

8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth connectivity is standard on SE and SEL trims. There's a responsive and intuitive 10.3-inch display with sharp resolution that's optional on the SEL and standard on the Limited and Calligraphy, and it's available with navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. For both systems, physical knobs and buttons are also available. At the same time, two Bluetooth devices can be connected. When equipped with Hyundai's Blue Link app, the Palisade can be locked and unlocked, as well as started, via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
