The famous Ambassador car is expected to make a comeback as a new electric vehicle developed in collaboration with a French automaker.
Hindustan Motors, best known in India for its classic Ambassador automobiles, plans to re-enter the market as an electric vehicle producer. According to the Times of India, the firm is now considering a deal with a European electric car manufacturer to develop electric scooters in its facilities. According to a report by HT Bangla, the company also intends to expand its activities to include the production of electric vehicles. According to reports, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their partnership.
The partnership process will take about three months to complete. According to the report, the company will first produce electric two-wheelers. According to the report, Hindustan Motors will have a 51:49 stake in the upcoming project.
In the 1970s, Hindustan Motors controlled 75% of the Indian automobile market. It was the manufacturer of the iconic Ambassador car, which ruled Indian roads for many years before being phased out. When cheaper and more affordable cars such as the Maruti 800 and other models began to appear in the country, the Hindustan Motors Ambassador found itself up against a steel challenge.
It was also unable to keep up with the rapidly changing technology in the automotive industry, resulting in declining sales and, eventually, discontinuation. Groupe PSA bought Peugeot A and the Ambassador brand from Birla Group, which owned Hindustan Motors, in 2017.
